Gulay Guisado
Things are slowly picking up again and routines are going back to place. I still can’t believe how fast the Christmas season passed by. One minute I was preparing gift baskets to give to friends and family and the other poof! we were celebrating for the new year. It makes you realize just how fast life goes. Yesterday, I was watching my friend’s video diary of the things he’d done the past year and thought to myself “Damn, he’s done a lot. My life looked so bland compared to his.” Literally, he’s the textbook meaning of living life at it fullest every single day. I don’t do a lot of new year’s resolution, but I might take this one up. Although, Hubby did remind me that I did a lot too last year, in my own little way. I quit my job and decided to become a full-time housewife and a hands-on mother. I became serious with my food blog and realized that my passion in life was cooking. Although, I think I would also love photography and I’m crossing my fingers hoping I can finally buy the SLR camera I’ve dreaming of this year. I guess I just needed to be reminded by Hubby of how fulfilling my life has been. Many people don’t realize this but running a household and taking well care of a child is a full-time job in itself. But I’ve also loved every second of it, which is more than I can say from my previous job. Lately, my pleasure has been cooking in the kitchen with Baby. I do my own thing and she does her own too.
Today, I turned to my Del Monte Kitchenomics cookbook again searching in vain something that would be quick and easy to make. Even if cooking is my passion, some days I wouldn’t mind passing on the cooking. When you wake up early morning to start taking care of the baby, cleaning the house, running errands, and paying the bills, you can very very very tired! I found Gulay Guisado in the book, scanned through the ingredients and directions. I didn’t have some of the ingredients, but oh well, I’ll do with what I have, i told myself. But this will most probably be the last recipe I will use in this book for a while because I got a new cookbook for Christmas. I’m not sure if I mentioned it earlier. I also got a planner from Rustan’s Supermarket and it has interesting recipes. Can’t wait!
Gulay Guisado

- 8 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 bunches sitaw, cut 2 1/2 inches long
- 1 can (140 grams) tomato sauce
- 250 grams small-medium shrimps, peeled (reserve the heads and shells for shrimp juice)
- 1 cup shrimp juice
Directions:
Saute garic, onion, and sitaw. Add shrimp juice and tomato sauce. Season with 2 tablespoon soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Cook for 5 minutes. Add shrimps. Cook for another 5 minutes.
-The original recipe used patola, but I didn’t have any on hand, plus Hubby doesn’t really like patola, so I didn’t use it.
