Salcedo Market, Manila
There was one thing I was dying to do this weekend: go to the Salcedo Market. In the part years, I’ve heard so much about this event that only happens on Saturday mornings. Located along Leviste Street in Salcedo Market, Makati, this was about 10 minutes from our hotel. Since it wraps up at 2pm, I urged Hubby that we go as soon as we were done with our breakfast. And breakfast was gonna be light because I was excited to get my hands on the Salcedo Market goodies.
Salad Dressing Stirrer
I got this little gadget last Christmas as one mini gift from my husband. He knows how much I like to cook, but I don’t have a lot of gadgets in our kitchen. I inherited most of the things my parents had but much is outdated. In fact, I’m still trying to save up for a Kitchenaid mixer to replace what I’m using now.
Healthy Gourmet 2010 Planner
A couple of weeks ago, I was grocery shopping at Rustan’s Supermarket, Cebu. I love shopping at Rustan’s Cebu because there’s more international products, the seafood and meat products are fresh and clean, and the parking is just outside the store (this is a BIG plus for me). So, as I was paying, the lovely cashier informed that I could claim my free planner and a cute Big Heads stuffed toy at the customer service.
Selecta Gold Series: Hazelnut Brownie
I wanted to like this. I really did. I mean, what is there not to like? Do I like Hazelnut? Check. Do I like chocolate? Check. Do I like Brownies? Double check. So when I finally had the chance to try the Selecta Gold Series: Hazelnut Brownie and I didn’t find anything spectacular about it, I was sorely disappointed.
Soupe de Poissons et Langoustines au Sel de Guerande
There’s this really great ready-to-eat French fish soup available at Rustan’s Supermarket (Cebu). Sold at only P179.50 for a 950 grams bottle, I think it’s one of the best things I’ve discovered lately.
Selecta Gold Series: Chocolate Truffles
One of Selecta Gold Series’ new flavor, Chocolate Truffles, is described as “a triple wonder of milk chocolate ice cream with luscious chocolate truffles and swirls of chocolate fudge”. Developed by Chef Rolando Laudico, this sinful treat is too delicious for words. It’s a perfectly balanced mixture of chocolate and cream; a chocolate lover’s dream.
Nestle Heaven Strawberry Dream
I hate the heat, well except, maybe if we’re spending the day at the pool or at the beach. In the past few days, the heat has become my no. 1 enemy. I crave nothing more right now than taking a long vacation lying on a lounge chair on the beachside while sipping ice-cold piñacolada and listening to the sound of the sea and people walking by. Yes, I miss Boracay. Every College summer vacation, my Dad and I would pack our bags and go to Boracay. He’s not much of a beach-person but there’s this little quaint French restaurant/hang-out that he loved. Aside from the good food, he would treat himself with buying French books for a very good bargain price. Dad even invited Hubby (my-then-boyfriend) to come along with us. For four straight years, Boracay was our summer escape place for a week. It’s been two years now that we haven’t gone back. And on hot days like today, I like imagining going back there with my kid and family.
For the meantime, I am contenting myself with trying out different kinds of ice cream to beat the summer heat. Can you believe the number of ice cream flavors that are available now? I remember the time when vanilla and chocolate were basically the only flavors available. Then rocky road came out and other chocolate-inspired ones. Then, it was pistachio and fruits-inspired. Now, there are over a hundred to choose from. And not just from the local brands, more and more imported brands are emerging in the Filipino market. I personally prefer the local ones. So here I am, officially commemorating the start of our summer ice cream escapade 2009.
S’mores Chocolate Cake
Price: P315 – Junior Size Branch: Gaisano Country Mall, Cebu City.
One of our favorite bakeshop in town is Red Ribbon Bakeshop. For as long as I remember, every birthdays and occasions in our family was shared with a red ribbon cake. My personal favorite is the mango cream pie. I don’t often see it anymore though. I hope it’s not phased out. Coming close in second, is the chocolate mousse. That’s hubby’s and dad’s all time favorite. If I didn’t stop them, we’d be buying the chocolate mousse every time.
I love cake, and unlike me, hubby and dad are very picky with their cakes; usually finding them too dry. Fortunately, Red Ribbon suits them perfectly. Their cakes are so heavenly that they simply melt in the mouth. I might be disappointed at the service sometimes, but the cakes never fail me.
